Pencils of Promise, a nonprofit organization working to increase access to quality education for children in the developing world, will host its annual Gala at Gustavino’s in New York City on Thursday, October 24th, 2013.
The Gala is the biggest celebration of the year for Pencils of Promise. The night will honor exceptional Pencils of Promise ambassadors and leading figures in international education. This year’s honorees include international education icon Malala Yousafzai, Mayor Cory Booker, and The Cahill Family, long-time PoP supporters. The evening will be hosted by actress and PoP Ambassador, Sophia Bush.
Launched by Adam Braun, Pencils of Promise, “PoP” was started with just a $25 deposit, and has blossomed into an organization making significant impact on access to education for youth. PoP has successfully completed over 120 schools in some of the poorest regions in the developing world – Laos, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Ghana, with hundreds of additional schools planned. PoP also offers ongoing education programs to each community, comprehensive staff development and leadership training, and student scholarships to prevent school dropouts. PoP schools are built with high-quality materials to ensure long lasting structures, and require a community contribution of materials and labor ensuring a community commitment to each project. Pencils of Promise is a registered nonprofit organization in the US.
